The old carpeting, base board coving, and parquet flooring are piled up outside the back entrance of the lodge.  Most of the flooring has existing for as long as the building has been standing (1961).

The hallway carpet is being removed in strips.  The small piles on the left are glue scrapings which held down the old carpet.  After nearly 25 years, the glue was still tacky.

The secretary's office was striped down to the bare floor, and coving removed.  The white looking floor areas have been scraped.

The corner looks lonely without the secretary's desk.  The bird's nest of wire are the telephone and computer connections.

The Building Office had yet to be scraped at the time the picture was taken.  The door was still on it's hinges, but not for long.

Years of wear and tear had taken its toll on the carpeting.  We really didn't realize how discolored and wore-out the weave had become until some of the furniture had been removed.

The carpeting was removed in strips by several workers.  There was no padding under the carpet, just lots of glue.  About 15 men made short work of the project.

These guys worked very fast getting the old carpet out.  It's tough on the old knees.

The office furniture was placed in the foyer, as the offices were the first rooms to get the new carpet.  Furthermore, the foyer received a fresh coat of white paint.  Notice the lodge room doors have been removed.

The entire foyer and reception areas are getting new carpet.  Again, the old carpeting near the front doors was removed.

The vinyl tile floors have been striped of wax, and lots of new glue will be applied to hold down the new carpet.  All the lodge doors are being striped of hardware.  The doors will be cut and re-finished.

This fellow bought the Parlor Lecture Club piano for his father.  However, we happened to hear him play the piano when he thought no one was listening.  He is a very accomplished pianist.  He also plays guitar, and has a beautiful singing voice.

The foyer floors have been wax striped and are ready for the glue.  Looks different without the furniture.

This is the new ramp built over the stairs on the west side of the stage.  This will make it easier to bring equipment on stage, and save our stair case from damage on the east.  The ramp will also be carpeted.

Obviously, the Lodge Room has a new use.  It's amazing how much stuff we have in the building.

All our doors are being professionally refinished.  They should look very nice against the new carpet.

The sea container is being used as a wind-protected room to finish the doors.  The door repair and preparation is done under the canopy to protect the workers from the hot sun.

This is the pattern of the new carpet that is being put down.  In the close-up picture, it looks very colorful.  But when you see it in person, it is predominately blue.

All this renovation and coordination is being conducted by our Lodge Secretary and Building Manager, Brother Jim Clark.  It was Jim who fostered the idea of this renovation, and pulled the funding together, contracted on behalf of the Lodge, and is coordinating and supervising all the work.  It's a big, time consuming job.  Thank you Jim.

And to all the brothers and families who have faithfully contributed to the financial well being of Las Palmas Ponderosa, both living and those who have gone to that Great Celestial Lodge ; a heart-felt thank you.

Please come to the lodge during our next meeting or event, and enjoy the benefits of brotherhood.
